“Im Abendrot”
“Im abendrot” (1993) rests on the contrast between the still life in the foreground, and the background figure which, with its gesture, exemplifies the passage of time in an environment that evokes past glories. We used the blank edge of the cassette represented at the bottom to hold the title of the painting, which is one of the Four Last Songs of Richard Strauss, ImAbendrot, “At sunset” (1949), a twilight work by the title, by the content and by the time in the life of the author. Similarly, the painter has also used the space where the brand of the tape would be, TDK, to put in its place the author’s initials.
